Summer 2025 has brought high visitor numbers to Yr Wyddfa, consistent with the pattern of recent years. Pen y Pass car park is reaching capacity before 7am on most summer weekends and bank holidays, making advance booking not just advisable but effectively mandatory for walkers wanting to start the Pyg Track or Miners' Track before crowds build.
The Nant Peris Park & Ride has been functioning well as the practical alternative. The Sherpa S5 shuttle from Nant Peris to Pen y Pass has been running reliably on weekends. If you did not book Pen y Pass in advance, arriving at Nant Peris and taking the shuttle remains the best plan rather than attempting roadside parking on the A4086.
The Llanberis Path is experiencing very high footfall. Early starts — before 8am — remain the most effective way to avoid the busiest section of the day on this route. Western route car parks (Rhyd Ddu, Llyn Cwellyn) continue to have ample capacity even on peak days.
Weather has been typically variable. Summit cloud cover has been frequent even on days with clear valley conditions. Check the MWIS Welsh mountains forecast and the Met Office Snowdon mountain forecast the evening before and morning of any planned ascent.
